If you’re ever in London and looking for a treasure trove or want to feel like you have been transported back in time, then the London Silver Vault is the place to go.
Located beneath Chancery Lane, it offers one of the largest selections of contemporary silver and fine antiques. This unique underground setting has an almost time machine effect transporting you back to the mid-1800s!
The Vaults originally opened as The Chancery Lane Safe Deposit on the 7th of May 1885. Its humble beginnings as a Safe Deposit was renting out strong rooms to hold household silver, and important documents, it transitioned to housing silver dealers in secure premises a few years later that is more like the modern-day Safe Deposit Centres we know.
The present building opened in 1953, but sadly it was destroyed in World War 2 after being directly struck, miraculously the vault was not damaged at all probably due to its 1.2-meter thick walls that were lined with steel. 10 years later the new building, Chancery House, was constructed and since 1953 it has been in its present format.
Today within the Vault, there are 29 independently owned family-run shops with expert knowledge and a rich history that has been passed down over the generations. Some say this delightful Aladdin’s cave has "the largest single collection of silver for sale in the world!”
The Vaults sell a wide variety of antique jewellery and rare collectors’ items, decorative pieces silver tableware and gifts, it doesn’t only cater for the antique hunters in us it also has modern silver decorative pieces and gifts, there is something for every occasion.
It’s truly amazing to look back at the evaluation of safe deposit centres and where they originate from.
