Have a Safe Night Out

Date Posted: 02-11-2017

Everyone loves a night out. It’s an opportunity to enjoy a drink and let your hair down with your friends. Remaining safe and keeping a close eye on personal belongings such as handbags and wallets is an essential element to ensuring you have an enjoyable night out.

If you're heading for a night out this weekend, take a look at some of our top tips for keeping yourself and your belongings safe.

How to Remain Safe On a Night Out

Many nights out often involve enjoying a drink or two. Whether you choose to celebrate or unwind with a glass of wine, a beer, or a non-alcoholic cocktail, at some point in your evening you are bound to experience a number of intoxicated individuals.

Before you head out, check that you have everything you might need to stay safe. Plan how you are going to get to your destination safely and most importantly make sure you have plans in place for getting home. It’s always a good idea to have a contingency plan in case your situation changes.

Make sure your phone is fully charged before leaving the house. This is important in case you need to ring a taxi or get in touch with anyone throughout the night.

Although it’s great to take pictures with your smartphone on a night out with friends, it’s advisable to try to only use your phone when necessary. Constantly taking your phone in and out of your bag or pocket will advertise to everyone that you may have a phone worth stealing.

Make sure you have keys to wherever you’re staying and some form of photo I.D if you’re lucky enough to look under the age of 25!

Never leave your drink unattended. Drinks left on a table or bar are at risk of having something dangerous dropped into them. Stay vigilant and if for some reason your drink does get left unattended, it’s better to just buy a fresh one.

Try to remember to save enough cash for a taxi home by yourself, in case of an emergency. Keeping it in a different part of your purse or wallet will help to stop you from spending it.

Keeping Possessions Safe

Ensuring you keep your belongings with you at all times will help to prevent any items from being lost or stolen. There’s nothing worse than discovering that you’ve lost your phone, keys, purse or wallet on a night out.

It is also important to make sure your valuable items at home are safe whilst you are out enjoying yourself. Burglars will often target properties which they know are left unattended so making sure that your home and possessions are safe whilst you aren’t there will provide you with extra peace of mind.
